On the new season of Keeping Up With The Kardashians, Kim Kardashian raved about the interventional radiology procedure taking Hollywood by storm: Emsculpt Neo. This non-invasive treatment tones and strengthens the abs and glutes, while simultaneously eliminating fat and generating muscle muss. Moreover, this device utilizes electromagnetic energy to chisel out and aesthetically define the buttocks, which makes it the world’s first non-invasive Brazilian butt lift. This procedure presents an alluring option for patients who are close to their ideal weight and are seeking a more contoured figure, particularly for the stagnant regions of their body that are not influenced by physical training and limited diets.
This study assessed 14 clinical trials that focused on examining electromagnetic treatments such as Emsculpt Neo, Emsculpt, radiofrequency procedures, etc. The study noted that no complications were observed, deeming the energy-based treatments as safe. However, it is important to note that although the results yielded an almost instantaneously decreased thickness in fat tissue after the procedure, the “measured treatment effects are minimal (<5 mm)” [1]. Moreover, there is just not enough evidence yet to “justify the time and expense for patients” [1]. Therefore, while such non-surgical techniques might seem like the ideal solution to achieving a celebrity-esque physique, one must speak to their medical provider to understand the benefits and risks, along with acquiring their recommendation as to whether or not this treatment should be undertaken.
